Fry Bread (Tacos)

Ingredients – depending on size this makes about 8 fry breads

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

2 cups buttermilk

oil for frying

Directions

In a bowl add all the dry ingredients and mix. Then add the milk and stir with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together. On a floured surface, knead the dough until smooth. Roll out the dough and cut into rounds. I used a glass bowl for this step and it worked great. Put your dough rounds/ discs on floured parchment paper. Let the dough rest for about 15 minutes.

Heat the oil in a deep fryer or any other saucepan large enough for frying to 375 degrees. The oil should be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep. Take one fry bead at a time, make a small hole in the middle and slowly lower into the oil. The hole in the middle will ensure that the dough fries evenly. Fry the discs until they are golden brown turning once or twice then drain them on a paper towel

Top the fry bread with your favorite ingredients. Enjoy !
